Our Family’s Journey in 2024 生活之旅 2024
2024 has been the busiest year for my family since moving to the UK, and as a result, the blog’s traffic has dropped to its lowest point ever! 2024

I normally went hiking in the Mount Parker country park, which is easily accessible and with sufficient distance as a workout. Hiking in the New Territories seems to be rare to me but I had one with my old classmates in Tsing Yi last month.
During the Lunar New Year Holidays, most of the shops and restaurants will be closed. Even you can find restaurant that is open for service, it will definitely include a 10% surcharge. Other than visiting relatives or friends, hiking is believed to be the most cost saving activities. Not only we can consume some of our free time, it will also bring good health to us and that’s why we had two hiking trips in this holidays.
I had a wonderful day in Mei Lam Estate today with my parents.
Our weekday hiking routes are normally focused around those short trails in the Hong Kong Island where we can have adequate time to pick up our little boy after school. The Sir Cecil’s Ride located in the eastern part of the Hong Kong Island that we hiked recently is one of the great choices.
Last week, I went hiking with my wife and one of my cycling buddies to the Big Wave Bay (大浪灣) along the Leaping Dragon Walk (龍躍徑) located in the eastern corner of the Hong Kong Island.
We started our journey from the Siu Sai Wan Promenade in Chaiwan, which is right next to the entrance of the Leaping Dragon Walk.
Woke up in a hot summer morning with nothing to do. My wife asked if I would like to have a short trip to Stanley with our boy.
Well, why not??
Last Sunday’s weather was not very stable. A hot sunny day but with occasional thunderstorm moving across the region as advised by the Hong Kong Observatory.
Instead of taking a long endurance journey, the group opted to ride on a short relaxing trip to the old fishing village, Sam Mun Tsai.
Today is the last day of June 2018. With no group riding and nothing else to do, my wife suggested to have a short trip to the Inspiration Lake, Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong.
The 23rd of March of the Lunar Calendar is the birthday of Tin Hau (or Mazu in Taiwan). According to informal historical recording, she was born in China around the 10th century and was later became the Goddess of the Sea.
This year, the Tin Hau birthday (or Tin Hau Festival) was on 8 May 2018. There are various celebration activities held by local communities in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and several traditional fishing villages.
On last Saturday, my family and I visited Sai Kung, an old fishing village in Hong Kong, and had a glimpse into one of the local celebration events.
If you like hiking in Hong Kong, there is a place that you must make a visit – Tai Mo Shan.
I’ve been to Tai Mo Shan a number of times. Cold Winter, cool autumn, hot summer; Sunny day, rainy day; hiking and even cycling. No matter how and when, you will find your ways to enjoy.
The fourth of the series is “FoTan to the Old Frontier at Lo Wu”.
This is an extension of the FoTan to Sheung Shui cycling route. A visit to the old Hong Kong Frontier before the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China,
Today’s ride is also a group ride with a total of 12 riders. They are mostly from the same team in the last ride, plus some other new happy faces …
Unlike what I usually have, today is a group ride with my family and schoolmates. No cycling jersey and no clipless road shoes, just to have fun and enjoy the bright sunlight …
In this and my coming posts, I will revisit a number of popular cycling routes in Hong Kong. Let me share with you the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong and hopefully provide you with some background information in case you will be riding in Hong Kong in the near future.
The first one of the series is “Shatin to Tai Mei Tuk” …
The weather was slightly warmer in last week which was suitable for outdoor activities. By the time my boy has finished his homework, it was already close to noon and we might not have time to places farther away In that case, we decided to have a short trip in one of the outlying islands nearby – the Lamma Island …
My little boy is enthusiastic about bus routes (unlike others, he only cares about the route and the bus!) and he memories nearly all the bus routes in Hong Kong. Whenever we have spare time, he will ask me or his mother to take him for a bus ride (of course, on route designated by him). Today we have boarded route number 4 and 42 that are operated by New World First Bus. Our destination is Wah Fu Estate located in the South Western side of the Hong Kong Island …
